My ONE THING To-Do List

I thrive on making lists - it's sort of my thing. But I definitely can feel overwhelmed when things are getting added to my list faster than I can check them off. A year ago, my friend and I started a monthly "one thing" to-do list. The name is a bit deceiving because it's not actually just one thing. It is ONE thing in each of the KEY areas that are important to us -- kids, marriage, faith, health, career, friends, etc. You could make it just one thing, but we felt that there would always be pressure in all areas of our lives to do more and be more. So instead, we set goals in each of these areas that we would work towards for the month. It allowed us to progress or accomplish something in each area and took the pressure off of being the best in all areas. This isn't about creating BIG goals, although a little stretch never hurts! This is about focusing on a few key things instead of trying to do it all. "Taking a shower every day" is a strong contender for a health & wellness goal! (I have a 3 month old, almost 2 year old, and almost 6 year old - showers are hard to come by right now!)

Accountability is key to success. My friend and I held each other accountable. If she would make her list ahead of me, I'd make sure to create mine soon after. When we connected, we would talk through the progress of our goals -- where we felt we were doing well and where we struggled. It wasn't until we let life get back in the way and stopped meeting regularly that I stopped making my one thing to-do list. It was a quick downward spiral from there. I'm ready to get back to focusing on a few key goals each month.

SO, here is my one thing to-do list for June!!

Find an accountability partner and create yours today. Your 'categories' can be whatever you want them to be -- those areas of importance in your life: marriage, kids, spirituality, family, home, health, career, friends, helping hand, etc. Your 'goals' should be specific and measurable so that you will know when you can check them off as complete. It's easy to become complacent when goals are vague or more general.

Have fun and be creative when you put yours together!

Focus on you. Make it yours!

Cheers to feeling focused and accomplished!

My almost 6 year old daughter took this picture of me, hence the unappealing camera angle.  But this is how she sees me, so even though it's not the most glamorous picture, it works.  This is me.
